“Viva la Vida” Frida Kahlo Catrina, Hand Printed Linoleum on Paper
Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead in English, is a traditional Mexican celebration, where we celebrate those who are not with us in this life anymore. Today we celebrate the renowned artist Frida Kahlo. Although she was far from a saint, she is dressed as a catrina, with a shawl and flowers decorating her head with one of her famous quotes “Viva la Vida” at the bottom of the design.
The image was first created by hand, then transferred on a linoleum block, carved by hand and individually inked and printed in an etching press. The paper is 90lb White Legion Stonehenge made out of 100% cotton fibers, used in printmaking with oil based ink for a longer lasting life. The paper measures 7.5x11 in, with the title, number of edition and signature on the bottom, the image measures 4 x 6.75 in.
